Still Here - 2024
Shortlisted for the Broken Hill Regional Gallery Pro Hart Outback Art Prize.
Watercolour, Gouache, Pencil, Pastel on Paper
The Australian landscape is my heart place. During my first trip to Mungo in May 2024, I was struck by the layered history of the land. Every year, it reveals more of its story, a tangible reminder of what happens when one ventures into the desert. The act of sitting and waiting, allowing the space to communicate, is key. The more patient you are, the deeper the land's stories become. It's also striking how resilient the land, it's fauna, it's people are; despite our attempts to alter it, change or crush, it is strong always reverts to its natural state. No matter what challenges arise, it remains steadfast, whispering, "I'm still here..."
