In early 2025 a bushfire came close enough to the farm that we packed the car. Three months later I went back into the burnt bush and painted it, acrylic straight onto the wood, both sides, standing in the country it was about. Back at Sailors Falls I finished them with gold leaf and wax. They're small and heavy and made to stand rather than hang, so both sides get seen.

One side: five trunks in gold leaf with red dots up their length, the new growth that comes out of burnt bark, and one thick orange trunk still holding the heat, on a purple ground under a black band with pink dots and a red ridge line, smoke going up white at the top. The other side is the storm that follows: a black cloud mass with a red edge over blue, seven gold trunks standing in purple scrub, and the ground pale with red flowers coming up through it. Signed and dated on the side.
