In early 2025 a bushfire came close enough to the farm that we packed the car. Three months later I went back into the burnt bush and painted it, acrylic straight onto the wood, both sides, standing in the country it was about. Back at Sailors Falls I finished them with gold leaf and wax. They're small and heavy and made to stand rather than hang, so both sides get seen.
One side is the country after rain — a mauve-grey ground, a cloud laid on thick in white, gold-leaf trunks, a black hill with a red edge and pink dots falling like rain. Turn it over and it's the same country in fire colours: red ground, black sky, a grey-green hill, the same gold trunks. Signed and dated on the side.
Size: 13 × 19 × 2.5 cm — double-sided block.
Medium: Acrylic, gold leaf and wax on reclaimed timber.
Finishing: Signed and dated on the side. Double-sided. One of one.
