In early 2025 a bushfire came close enough to the farm that we packed the car. Three months later I went back into the burnt bush and painted it, acrylic straight onto the wood, both sides, standing in the country it was about. Back at Sailors Falls I finished them with gold leaf and wax. They're small and heavy and made to stand rather than hang, so both sides get seen.

One side: black trunks against a grey-green ridge, the ground and the far hill in gold leaf, and two red flames, one at the foot of a trunk, one caught up in the branches, with white cloud on blue over the top. The other side: the same trunks with the fire gone through, a dark ridge under a strip of pale sky, and the ground gold with red flowers coming up in it. Signed and dated on the side.

Size: 13 × 15 × 2.5 cm — double-sided block.

Medium: Acrylic, gold leaf and wax on reclaimed timber.
